Last week I was in Chicago and had the joy of meeting Tim of Lottie + Doof. I’ve been reading Tim’s blog and making recipes that he writes about for some time, so it was great to finally meet him. I crunched on a sandwich—Tim suggested we meet at Floriole because they make delicious sammies; I was not disappointed—while we talked shop.

It took everything in my power to enjoy the moment and not photograph what I ate, so here’s an artist’s rendition.

Thanks again Tim. Yay for IRL.

I had the pleasure of meeting Maori Murota on Monday. She makes delicious bento (if these pictures don’t make you hungry, well, then I don’t know what to say) at La Conserverie at lunch during the week. I went yesterday and ordered mine to go. It took me a while to think of a place to eat it, but I ended up on a little bench (just right for one) at a park in Les Halles. Perfect.

I bought the jumbo bag of Mini Magoo’s ginger granuesli. I was reassured by the owner Maria, Miss Mini Magoo, that it would last me a month. She was generously scooping out samples from a glass jar at the Borough Market, and I couldn’t resist. We talked about granola with such enthusiasm that my friends took a picture of me in my rapture of Maria’s great energy. I had my first bowl with almond milk and over-ripe banana. I’m in granola love.

So these meatballs also came with two strips of bacon and a mound of mashed potatoes. This place reminds me of Lodge in Williamsburg, cute bearded waiters included. The chocolate volcano dessert was delightful.

I love a good grilled cheese. It has to be my ultimate comfort food. On a rainy Sunday in London, Claire introduced me to the three cheese and chive toastie at Allpress Espresso.

I’m writing postcards this week to the food I ate and loved in London. Primrose Bakery was pink and girly and full of children in school uni’s which was cute (in theory). Cupcake was light and fluffy and perfectly sugary. Kind of wish I had eaten two.

This is the lemon meringue pie at Le Loir dans la Théière. It’s crazy. And your teeth might fall out of your head if you eat it all by yourself. So go with someone to share it with, which is what I did one afternoon with Anne, Kali, and Felicia. I think my spoon must have been bigger than everyone else’s.

breakfast / lunch. roasted chou, fried egg, and my new favorite thing is sushi rice.

I ate this weird lunch (file under : ugliest egg on earth. sorry egg!), that made me think I was being healthy. And I made Tifamade stickers for the jars I am going to use this weekend to contain salads. Yep, that’s me dusting off some Photoshop skillz. Check it out.

Is kraft paper over?

Perfection. Late summer tomato salad and a rosé wine flight. Merci Potager. There was a French, an Italian, and a Denver (Infinite Monkey Theorem) rosé.
