Keep Up With Tifamade

I realised the extent to which the super market has undermined the qualities I valued by denying the sense of touch and smell in the process of purchasing. Generic products not individual choices are promoted - the more uniform, the better. The more perfect the shape, the more highly valued the item. The sensitive hunter, farmer or gatherer knows that uniformity is not a measure of quality and that food should not be hunted, grown or gathered to the detriment of the environment of its origins. One needs to be brave and canny to challenge the power of the food industry.

I recently found a used copy of Hannah Collins’ book The Fragile Feast : Routes to Ferran Adrià. The images are beautiful and Collins perspective of food production and consumption is a gentle reminder of our connection to the food we eat.
